Biography

Dr. Kathryn Walton is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Relations and Applied Nutrition at the University of Guelph. She completed her Bachelor of Applied Science in 2011, her Master of Science in 2013, and her PhD in Applied Human Nutrition in 2018, all from the University of Guelph. Following her PhD, Dr. Walton completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at SickKids Hospital from 2018 to 2022. Her research focuses on developing evidence-based practices for feeding children to support their healthy growth and development. Dr. Walton examines issues related to children's eating behaviors, diet quality, body composition, and parental interactions during mealtimes, as well as how the home environment and family stress can affect children's health. Her specific interests include supporting families of children with high-risk eating difficulties, including those born preterm or with neurodevelopmental disorders. She is the Associate Director of the Guelph Family Health Study, a family-based cohort study designed to identify early-life risk factors for chronic disease and to test strategies to support healthy behaviors in children and families.
