Biography

Kathy Klimpel is a Clinical Associate Professor at the Hahn School of Nursing and Health Science at the University of San Diego and the Beyster Institute for Nursing Research. She teaches courses in Health Care Informatics and Nursing Informatics in DNP programs and serves as a capstone advisor for DNP projects. Klimpel is actively engaged in the American Nursing Informatics Association (ANIA) and has served on the San Diego Regional Chapter Board for four years, currently holding the position of Chapter President. As an AMIA Certified Health Informatics Professional (ACHIP) Diplomat, she is dedicated to improving health informatics in nursing practice. Klmpel has held various positions that include bedside clinical care in pediatric ICUs, clinical nurse specialist roles, and leadership positions as a research coordinator across multiple healthcare institutions including Children’s Hospital St. Louis and the National Institutes of Health. Her scholarly work focuses on the use of electronic health record technologies and clinical decision support systems to enhance nursing practices and improve patient outcomes.
