Kati Pasanen completed her Bachelor of Science in Physiotherapy at Karelia University in 1999, followed by a Master of Science in Health Sciences at the University of Jyväskylä in 2005, and a PhD in Injury Prevention at the University of Tampere in 2009. Before moving to Calgary, she served as the Research Development Manager at the Tampere Research Center of Sports Medicine and worked as a high-performance coach, training hundreds of elite team sport athletes from the early 1990s until 2017. Presently, she is an Associate Professor at the University of Calgary in the Faculty of Kinesiology, where she also leads the Clinical Biomechanics Lab and co-leads the Integrative Neuromuscular Sport Performance Laboratory (INSPL). Her research focuses on the prevention of sport injuries, particularly anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries in female athletes. Her ongoing work includes epidemiological, clinical, biomechanical, and experimental studies examining athletes’ biomechanics during activities such as running and cutting, mechanisms and risk factors for lower extremity injuries, and the effects of fitness training programs on injury prevention.
