Katie Braid is a fashion illustrator and communicator teaching in the Fashion Programme at the Edinburgh College of Art's School of Design. Her illustrative work aims to open conversations about traditional notions of beauty and the unrealistic body depictions often associated with drawn fashion images. She takes an expressive approach to the drawn fashion figure, celebrating imperfection, individuality, and vulnerability through direct mark-making. Her work explores the limited parameters which have historically been associated with fashion illustration, progressing towards a more inclusive and authentic approach. As an alumni of Edinburgh College of Art, where she completed her MA in Fashion Design, Katie has worked in various roles within the fashion and textiles industry before returning to ECA to teach. In 2024, she was a recipient of the FIDA 'Fashion Illustration Drawing Arts' Award for her illustrative stop-motion work. Her work has been exhibited internationally at group shows, including the National Arts Club in New York and the Institute Marangoni in Paris, as well as featured in multiple publications relating to fashion illustration.
