Biography

Katie Louras is a Clinical Instructor at the University of Michigan Law School’s Juvenile Justice Clinic. Before joining the Law School, Louras worked as a family defense attorney in Manhattan, where she served as court-appointed counsel for indigent parents in neglect and abuse cases through the Center for Family Representation. Prior to that, she was a staff attorney at the Committee for Public Counsel Services in Boston, representing parents in similar child neglect and abuse matters. At law school, Louras participated in the Interdisciplinary Child Advocacy Clinic at Penn Law, where she advocated for youth in Special Immigrant Juvenile Status cases within neglect and abuse contexts. Her volunteer work includes several years at the student-run Custody Support Assistance Clinic, where she advised clients on custody, support, and protection from abuse issues. Louras holds the Clinical Legal Education Association Outstanding Clinical Student Award and the Penn Law Award for Exemplary Pro Bono Service. Additionally, she received the Eric D. Turner Award for excellence in family law from the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers. Before attending law school, she spent four years teaching elementary school through Teach for America in the Bronx.
