Biography

Katie's work takes a systems approach to climate change, drawing on political, economic, and social dimensions of climate mitigation and adaptation. She undertook her PhD at the University of Oxford, focusing on the role of human adaptation during past climatic changes in northern Africa. After completing her PhD, Katie developed a range of analytical approaches for reconstructing palaeodemographic and dietary trends in the context of Holocene climatic and cultural change. Her work emphasizes food and land use systems, as well as the science, policy, and business aspects necessary to develop the systemic transformations required to build a sustainable future. Katie’s research interests include Land Use Change, Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation, and Systems Analysis for equitable change. She is actively engaged in public communication, participating in events and media to make climate research accessible and relevant.
