Dr. Katie Marwick

Biography

Katie Marwick is a clinical psychiatrist specializing in reproductive psychiatry and the life course. She works in a multidisciplinary clinic focused on premenstrual syndrome and inpatient perinatal psychiatry. Her research investigates the links between menopause and severe mental illness. She studied medicine at the University of Cambridge and the University of Edinburgh, completing psychiatry training in southeast Scotland. As a Wellcome Trust funded PhD graduate, she participated in the Edinburgh Clinical Academic Track scheme and later held a CSO/NES Clinical Lecturer position while completing Higher Training in General Adult Psychiatry. Currently, she is a Senior Clinical Research Fellow at the University of Edinburgh and an Honorary Consultant Psychiatrist with NHS Lothian, leading initiatives in medical education and supervising undergraduate students. Her research interests include postpartum psychosis, perimenstrual exacerbations of psychiatric disorders, and the impact of hormonal changes on women's mental health. She utilizes clinical observations and routine health care data to uncover key research questions related to these issues, aiming to improve the lives of women facing hormone-sensitive severe mental health challenges. Marwick is involved in various committees and expert reviews and has contributed to significant publications and media discussions on perinatal mental health.
