Biography

Katie Szilagyi joined the Faculty of Law at the University of Manitoba as an Assistant Professor in 2021. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Biosystems Engineering from the University of Manitoba (2008) and a Juris Doctor degree from the University of Ottawa (2012), where she completed joint specializations in Law and Technology and International Law. She earned her LLM degree specializing in Law and Technology from Tel Aviv University in 2017 and returned to the University of Ottawa for her doctoral studies, supported by multiple scholarships. In October 2022, she successfully defended her PhD dissertation entitled “Artificial Intelligence and the Rule of Law.” Her research focuses on the intersection of artificial intelligence, legal decision-making, and the broader impacts of blockchain technology and autonomous weapons systems in law. Katie's work has been published in various interdisciplinary contexts, and she actively participates in research networks related to AI ethics and technology policy.
