Biography

Katja Grillner is a Professor of Critical Studies in Architecture at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, where she has been the head of the Department of Architecture since 2019. Her academic leadership includes roles as Dean of the faculty from 2015 to 2019 and deputy head of the department from 2013 to 2015. She has also served as deputy head of the ABE-school from 2009 to 2011. Grillner's research focuses on architecture, landscape, and performative aesthetic practices through historical and literary investigations, informed by critical theory. In her teaching, she has contributed to courses addressing intersections of architecture, feminism, and gender. She initiated and participated in influential groups that have shaped development in architectural design research in Sweden, including the Academy for Practice-based Research in Architecture Design (AKAD) from 2003 to 2007 and the Feminist Architecture Theory, Analysis, and Education (FATALE) from 2007 to 2012. Additionally, she has been involved in the Strong Research Environment for Architecture Effect from 2011 to 2019.
