Dr. Katja Stuerzenhofecker

Biography

Katja Stuerzenhofecker is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Religion, Gender, Religions & Theology at the University of Manchester. She joined the staff in 2003 and has a PhD in Professional Studies in Practical Theology from the University of Chester. Stuerzenhofecker's research focuses on gender issues within contemporary Jewish and Christian communities, emphasizing the social interactions between minority and majority groups. She employs ethnographic and participatory research methods, investigating online prayer practices of Orthodox Jewish women during the pandemic. Her teaching interests include the study of contemporary religion, inclusive pedagogy, and sustainable curriculum development in higher education, collaborating with students on pedagogical research. Stuerzenhofecker is also an Associate Research Supervisor recognized by the UK Council for Graduate Education and has organized various academic activities, including conferences and workshops. She has served as a guest editor for a special issue on Gender in Jewish Studies and holds external research positions, contributing her expertise related to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
