Katrien De Bock is a Belgian citizen, born in Belgium in 1980. She received her Master's degree in Rehabilitation Sciences in 2002. During her PhD at the Research Center for Exercise and Health at the University of Leuven from October 2002 to September 2007, she focused on exercise physiology, studying metabolic plasticity and muscle adaptations in a fasted state. After completing her doctorate, Katrien conducted postdoctoral training at the Vesalius Research Center within the Flemish Interuniversity Institute of Biotechnology (VIB) at the University of Leuven, under the mentorship of Professor Peter Carmeliet, from October 2007 to June 2013. She studied the link between angiogenesis and metabolism in the development of diseases. In September 2014, she took on an assistant professorship at the University of Leuven, during which she also spent time in Madrid, Spain, researching hypoxia and metabolism. In October 2015, Katrien accepted a professorship at ETH Zürich, where she currently chairs the Exercise Health research group. Her research focuses on endothelial cells and their metabolic communication within the microenvironment, emphasizing the importance of these interactions in maintaining organ homeostasis and blood vessel growth.
