The Chair of Vocational and Continuing Education focuses on the intersection of individual, society, education, and the world of work. It conducts research on various questions related to vocational education, including career orientation, vocational education systems, learning processes at work, continuing education, and education in the context of professional biographies or companies. The chair addresses three thematic focuses in its research: analyzing the relationship between vocational education and changes in society and the world of work; subject- and appropriation-oriented approaches to vocational education; and actor and policy issues related to vocational education concerning the education system and organizations. Methodologically, the focus is on qualitative methods, text, and image analytical procedures, as well as case studies. The Chair of Vocational and Continuing Education is responsible for teaching in educational science study programs (BA, MA, PhD) and in the complementary Master's program in Vocational and Economic Education, as well as for the 'Vocational Pedagogical Additional Qualification' program within the teacher diploma for higher schools.
