Dr. Katrina Blount

Biography

Katrina Blount is an Associate Research Scientist at Yale School of Medicine specializing in nephrology and the coordination of clinical trials for autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). She earned her Bachelor of Arts in Molecular Biology and Philosophy of Science from Hampshire College in 1991. Blount subsequently worked as a Research Technologist at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. She completed her PhD in Biochemistry at the University of Utah School of Medicine in 2000, where her thesis focused on the specificity parameters of class enzymes, particularly Double-Stranded RNA Adenosine Deaminases (ADARs) that modulate gene expression in cellular and viral pathways. Blount also served as an NIH Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Scripps Research Institute, La Jolla, CA, concentrating on ribonucleoprotein (RNP) assembly and RNA localization. Over her eight-year tenure as a Senior Regulatory Analyst at Yale University Institutional Review Boards (IRBs), she performed scientific regulatory reviews of diverse human subjects research in biomedical and social behavioral sciences and became a Certified IRB Professional (CIP) in 2012. Her research interests encompass Biochemistry, Bioethical Issues, Molecular Biology, Nephrology, and Research Design, particularly in relation to Polycystic Kidney Disease.
