Katrina Russell has a diverse performance background encompassing both Renaissance and contemporary music, in addition to orchestral playing and solo appearances. Since relocating to Vancouver Island in 2010, she has previously played in London, England, specializing in both modern and historical bassoons. As a specialist in historical performance, she has performed and recorded with noted period instrument ensembles across Britain and Europe, including English Concert, King’s Consort, and Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra. Katrina has toured extensively, featuring at prominent festivals such as the BBC Proms and Mostly Mozart at Lincoln Center in New York. She regularly performs with West Coast period instrument ensembles such as Early Music Vancouver and Pacific Baroque Orchestra. In addition to her performance career, Katrina began teaching privately in 1987, catering to students aged 11 to 80. She offers bassoon instruction and has provided specialized classes in reed making as well as community-based educational workshops. Currently, she is on the faculty at Nanaimo Conservatory of Music and contributes to the Baroque Orchestra Mentorship Programme at the University of British Columbia. Beyond teaching, Katrina collaborates with her husband, Andrew Clark, in a joint business specializing in making historical and modern brass instruments.
