Biography

Katsuhiko Murakami started his research career as a graduate student at the National Institute of Genetics and the Graduate University of Advanced Studies in Japan, receiving his Ph.D. in 1997. He engaged in postdoctoral research at Rockefeller University from 1998 to 2003, focusing on determining the X-ray crystal structure of bacterial RNA polymerase. In 2003, he joined the Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at Pennsylvania State University, where he became a full Professor in 2015. His research interests encompass various fields within molecular biology, including biophysics, biochemistry, enzymology, microbiology, infectious diseases, RNA biology, gene regulation, and structural biology. Additionally, he is involved with the Cryo-Electron Microscopy Facility and the Penn State Huck Institutes of the Life Sciences. He has served on editorial boards and is a member of several professional organizations.
