Biography

Katy Campbell is a professor in the Women's and Gender Studies program at the University of Alberta. She completed her PhD in Instructional Studies at the University of Alberta in 1994, focusing her doctoral research on the narrative study of the collaborative instructional design process as a socially transformative practice. She has held various academic roles, including Dean Emeritus of the Faculty of Extension from 2009 to 2019 and has worked as an instructional designer in the Faculty of Education at the University of Alberta (1983-1993). Additionally, she was an Assistant Professor at the College of Education at the State University of New York College at Geneseo (1993-1995) and designed distance programs for Keewatin Community College in Manitoba. Dr. Campbell's research involves feminist narrative inquiry and autoethnography, exploring identity transformation within the context of instructional design. Her recent collaborations include a study investigating university-community engagement and its sociocultural impacts, exploring identity development among engaged stakeholders across multiple countries. She also teaches graduate students specializing in learning design and narrative inquiry related to media technology and women's studies.
