Biography

Katy Sindall has been a lecturer at the University of Southampton since 2011, initially in Research Methods and currently in Criminology. She holds a BSc in Sociology Social Research from the University of Surrey and completed her MSc in Social Research Methods with a PhD specializing in quantitative criminology funded by the ESRC. Prior to her academic career, she worked as a researcher for both the Metropolitan Police and the Ministry of Justice. Her research focuses on public perceptions of police, crime, and the criminal justice system, specifically examining public confidence in police legitimacy and the fear of crime, as well as the experiences of children as victims of crime. She employs advanced quantitative methods to explore various criminological areas, and she is involved in supervising both undergraduate and postgraduate dissertation students, particularly in quantitative analysis using secondary datasets.
