Katy Tant is a Senior Lecturer in AI Engineering at the James Watt School of Engineering at the University of Glasgow. She obtained a BSc with Honours in Mathematics from Heriot-Watt University in 2011 and a PhD in Mathematical Modelling for Ultrasonic Non-Destructive Testing from the University of Strathclyde in 2014. In 2018, she was awarded a UKRI Innovation Fellowship to pursue research in the field of ultrasonic tomography for non-destructive evaluation. Tant was subsequently appointed as a Chancellor's Fellow in the Department of Mathematics and Statistics at the University of Strathclyde in 2019, before moving to her current position as Senior Lecturer at the University of Glasgow in 2024. Her research focuses on the intersection of applied mathematics and engineering, particularly on modeling waves in complex media, ultrasonics, and inverse problems in imaging. She has contributed to initiatives outside academia, such as advocating for women in STEM and leading equity, diversity, and inclusivity initiatives for postgraduate research students across Glasgow and Strathclyde universities. Notably, she co-led the petition to establish the IEEE UK & Ireland Chapter for Ultrasonics, Ferroelastics and Frequency Control, and currently chairs the Special Interest Group on Acoustic Non-Destructive Evaluation within the UK Acoustics Network. Tant is also recognized for her publication contributions that address real-world challenges with mathematical solutions.
