Biography

Katya Herman is an Associate Professor at the University of Regina in the Faculty of Kinesiology and Health Studies, where she has been part of the faculty since 2013. She holds a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from McMaster University, a Master of Science in Community Health Epidemiology from the University of Saskatchewan, and a PhD in Kinesiology Health Studies focusing on Physical Activity Epidemiology from Queen's University. Additionally, she completed Postdoctoral Fellowships in Epidemiology and Kinesiology at McGill University. Her research interests are centered on physical activity, sedentary behavior, and obesity epidemiology, with an emphasis on examining the inter-relationships between these factors across the lifespan, including children and older adults. Dr. Herman investigates the determinants of physical activity, seasonal patterns, and their association with health outcomes. She teaches various courses, including Lifestyle, Health & Wellness; Health Promotion; and Epidemiology, and is a national team athlete and a level 3 certified rowing coach. Outside of academia, she enjoys traveling and home renovations.
