Biography

Professor Katya Scheinberg holds the Coca-Cola Foundation Chair at the H. Milton Stewart School of Industrial and Systems Engineering at Georgia Tech. She is also a Gary C. Butler Family Faculty Fellow. Prior to joining Georgia Tech, she was a faculty member in the School of Operations Research and Information Engineering (ORIE) at Cornell University, where she held the Harvey E. Wagner Endowed Chair. Before that, she served on the faculty at Lehigh University. Scheinberg has an extensive background in optimization, having worked for a decade as a research staff member at IBM T.J. Watson Research Center, focusing on both applied and theoretical problems in optimization. She earned her Ph.D. in Operations Research from Columbia University in 1997, and her M.S. and B.S.-M.S. in Operations Research from Columbia University and Lomonosov Moscow State University, respectively. Her research interests include developing practical algorithms and theoretical analyses for problems in continuous optimization, convex optimization, derivative-free optimization, machine learning, and stochastic optimization. She has published several significant works in these areas, including a book titled 'Introduction to Derivative-Free Optimization' co-authored with Andrew R. Conn and Luis N. Vicente.
