Dr. Kazem Rahimi

Biography

Kazem Rahimi is a Professor of Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford and serves as a consultant cardiologist at the Oxford University Hospitals NHS Trust. His research interests focus on hypertension, heart failure, valvular heart disease, and preventive cardiovascular medicine. Kazem employs various methodologies including individual-patient meta-analysis, large-scale decentralized clinical trials, and digital health technologies. He leads the Deep Medicine programme in the Nuffield Department of Women’s Reproductive Health, with a primary interest in applying machine learning approaches to electronic health records. Kazem heads the Blood Pressure Lowering Treatment Trialists’ Collaboration (BPLTTC), which involves international trials assessing blood pressure-lowering medications. He is the Editor-in-Chief of BMJ Heart and serves various roles including Deputy Chair of the NIHR Academy Panel and Advisory Board Member for Medtronic PLC's Renal Denervation Programme. Kazem has also held positions as a member of the European Society of Cardiology Guidelines Methodology Group and the WHO Advisory role. He contributed to the NICE Medical Technology Advisory Committee and served as Speciality Editor for PLOS Medicine. He is actively involved in leadership within the Nuffield Department, particularly in data science initiatives.
