Biography

Kazuko Suzuki is an Associate Professor at Texas A&M University, specializing in International Migration, Race and Ethnic Relations, and Gender and Sexuality within the context of East Asian Studies. She authored the award-winning book 'Divided Fates: State, Race, Korean Immigrants’ Adaptation in Japan and the United States', which examines the patterns of adaptation of Korean diasporic groups, focusing on the constructs of race and nationhood, and its implications for immigrants of various ethnic and national origins. Dr. Suzuki held a Visiting Associate Professor position at Yale University during the 2017-18 academic year and has experience in fieldwork in Japan, Russia, and the United States. Her research interests include the analysis of the modes of incorporation for immigrant adaptation from an international comparative perspective, the historical and regional analysis of race within the Western paradigm, and issues surrounding human trafficking of women between the U.S. and Japan, as well as gender and sexuality in Japanese popular culture, particularly in the Yaoi/BL genre. Dr. Suzuki has taught various courses on gender, race, and ethnic relations at Texas A&M University.
