Dr. Kecia Fong

Biography

Kecia Fong is a conservation professional of the built environment with extensive experience as an educator and practitioner. She has worked internationally in the field of conservation, focusing on revitalization of historic sites and adaptive reuse of 20th-century architecture in North American cities. Her efforts include projects addressing diverse contexts from the Islamic core of Cairo to ancient Puebloan sites and emergency conservation efforts in Zeugma, Turkey. Kecia's role as an educator emphasizes a global perspective in understanding heritage conservation's impacts, and she is engaged in developing training programs for professionals in built heritage conservation across various regions, including North Africa and Southeast Asia. Currently, she is a PhD candidate at the Institute for Culture and Society at Western Sydney University, where her research examines collective identity and civic formations engendered by transnational conservation processes in rapidly developing cities in Asia. At the University of Pennsylvania's Weitzman School of Design, she is actively involved in initiatives aimed at improving equity and inclusion within the preservation education field.
