Biography

Keely Bebbington is a Clinical Psychologist leading mental health wellbeing research at the Rio Tinto Children’s Diabetes Centre, a JDRF Global Centre of Excellence. She was awarded the JDRF - Rebecca Davies Clinical Research Fellowship, with research aimed at preventing the onset of anxiety in children with Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) and their families. Her work is focused on understanding and significantly improving the mental health and psychosocial functioning of youth and families coping with T1D. Notably, she is interested in helping young individuals and families adjust to life with T1D and reduce the burden of managing a chronic condition. Keely completed her Master’s and PhD in Clinical Psychology at the University of Western Australia, where her doctoral research emphasized the social transmission of negative information among individuals with elevated anxiety levels. Additionally, she has previously researched the behavioral and cognitive characteristics of children and young people diagnosed with autism. Apart from her research, Keely continues to work part-time in private practice, supporting clients across the lifespan.
