Biography

Kees Braun obtained his Medical Degree from Utrecht University in January 1992. He specialized in Neurology (registered 2000) and Paediatric Neurology (registered 2002) at UMC Utrecht. In 2000, he obtained his PhD degree with a thesis entitled 'Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy in Hydrocephalus'. He was appointed as a staff neurologist in 2000 and a paediatric neurologist in 2002. In 2011, he became the head of the Paediatric Neurology/Neurosurgery department, and in 2012, he was appointed as a full professor of Paediatric Neurology. His clinical and scientific expertise areas include refractory paediatric epilepsy, surgery for epilepsy, imaging studies related to epilepsy, and childhood arteriopathic stroke, particularly in the treatment of moyamoya disease. He coordinates epilepsy research at the UMCU Brain Center, focusing on the effects of focal epilepsy on the brain using animal models and structural-functional network analysis, as well as the cognitive outcomes of seizures in paediatric patients.
