Kees Vink obtained his MSc degree in Biology with a specialization in Biochemistry from the University of Leiden in 1989. He performed his PhD studies at the Netherlands Cancer Institute (NKI/AVL) in Amsterdam from 1989 to 1993, focusing on the molecular interaction between the AIDS virus and the human host. Over the years, Kees worked as a postdoc at NKI/AVL and later became an assistant professor and then an associate professor at Maastricht University Medical Center, where he was involved in teaching studies related to molecular biology and viral and bacterial pathogens. In 2006, Kees became the Head of the Laboratory of Pediatrics at Erasmus MC in Rotterdam, where he participated in the educational program for the Research Master in ‘Infection Immunity’ and conducted research on the molecular characteristics of the respiratory tract pathogen Mycoplasma pneumoniae. On September 1, 2013, he joined Erasmus University College (EUC) as the Head of the Department of Life Sciences. Starting November 1, 2020, Kees was appointed Network Chair for 'Big Natural History Urban Ecology,' collaborating with the Erasmus University and the Natural History Museum Rotterdam. His fields of interest include Biochemistry, Molecular (Micro)biology, Evolutionary Biology, and Urban Ecology.
