Dr. Keiko Torii

Biography

Keiko Torii is currently an Affiliate Professor at the University of Washington and has a significant research background in plant cell biology. Her lab focuses on elucidating the molecular and cellular bases of functional tissue patterning, stem cell maintenance, differentiation, and cell-fate specification in plants. A prominent figure in her field, she has made notable discoveries regarding receptor kinases that regulate cell proliferation and the development of stomata, which are crucial for gas exchange and plant physiology. Among her achievements, she is a founding member of the Institute of Transformative BioMolecules at Nagoya University in Japan and has held positions as a Principal Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. Her academic credentials include a bachelor's degree in Biology with a major in Biochemistry and Biophysics, a master's degree, and a Ph.D. from the University of Tsukuba in Japan.
