Biography

Keisha Jefferies is an African Nova Scotian nurse scientist and Assistant Professor at the School of Nursing, Dalhousie University. She holds a University Research Chair and has significant clinical experience in neonatal intensive care and breastfeeding support. Her doctoral research was funded by prestigious provincial and federal awards, including the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarships and the Killam Trust, focusing on the leadership experiences of African Nova Scotian nurses in healthcare. Dr. Jefferies' research interests encompass Black populations' health, nursing leadership, and the examination of anti-Black racism in nursing education practice. She possesses expertise in health policy, qualitative research, and evidence syntheses. Utilizing Black Feminist Theory, she critically informs and guides her research and advocacy efforts aimed at promoting equity and inclusivity in post-secondary nursing education. Notably, in 2017, she co-founded a peer-mentorship group for Black students in nursing at Dalhousie University and serves as the director of M-BRACe, a multidisciplinary Black research advocacy centre that supports future generations of critical nurse leaders.
