Biography

Professor Keith J. Crocker joined the Smeal College of Business at Pennsylvania State University in 2003 as the William Elliott Chaired Professor in Insurance Risk Management. He holds a B.A. in Mathematics and Economics from Washington Lee University, as well as an M.S. and Ph.D. in Economics from Carnegie Mellon University. Prior to his position at Penn State, Professor Crocker was the Waldo O. Hildebrand Professor of Risk Management and Insurance and a Professor of Business Economics and Public Policy at the University of Michigan Business School. His academic experience includes teaching positions in the Department of Economics at the University of Virginia and serving as a staff economist at the Federal Trade Commission. His expertise includes serving as an expert witness in cases involving antitrust and insurance matters, as well as issues of captive taxation and workers’ compensation. Professor Crocker’s research primarily focuses on contracting issues, emphasizing transaction costs, adverse selection, and moral hazard in the design of agreements. Currently, he is researching tax accounting fraud, claims fraud in the context of insurance settlements, and the role of job attachment in designing optimal employer-sponsored health insurance policies.
