Biography

Born in Edinburgh, Keith Farquhar is an artist and educator based at the Edinburgh College of Art. He is educated at both the Edinburgh College of Art and Goldsmiths College, University of London. Farquhar's work has been exhibited internationally in various renowned galleries and museums including Cabinet in London, High Art in Paris, Office Baroque in Antwerp, David Zwirner in New York, and Galerie Neu in Berlin. His institutional presentations span Kunsthaus Melly in Rotterdam, Frankfurter Kunstverein, Braunschweig, INIT Kunst-Halle in Berlin, and ICA in London, as well as CAPC in Bordeaux. His research interests are centered on sculpture and installation art, with a focus on readymade objects, appropriation, and the banal or everyday. Farquhar leverages his varied knowledge to teach intermedia, sculpture, and painting at the undergraduate level, and serves as the Course Organiser for Artistic Research 4. His research work seeks to advance the proposition of the readymade, distilling and reimagining artistic gesture in novel and speculative ways. He is particularly interested in the overlooked cultural signifiers that shape his work, which are derived from the everyday objects and materials surrounding contemporary life. Currently, he is engaged in a new body of work to be showcased in a solo exhibition.
