Keli Safia Maksud is an interdisciplinary artist and writer whose work incorporates sound, sculpture, installation, printmaking, and embroidery. Her artistic practice is deeply concerned with histories of colonial encounters and the effects of memory on identities. Maksud’s work often occupies the space in-between thresholds, challenging established narratives and exposing the fictions of states and histories. She earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Painting from the Ontario College of Art and Design University and a Master of Fine Arts degree in Visual Arts from Columbia University. Maksud has received numerous fellowships and grants from esteemed institutions such as the Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Toronto Arts Council, the Ontario Council for the Arts, and the New York Foundation for the Arts. Her writing has been published in notable publications such as OCULA Magazine, the Swiss Institute, LEAP Magazine, and Space Gallery.
