Biography

Dr. Kelly Comfort received her PhD in Comparative Literature with a designated emphasis in Critical Theory from the University of California, Davis. She joined the Georgia Tech faculty as an Assistant Professor of Spanish in the School of Modern Languages in 2005 and became an Associate Professor in 2012. Her research specializes in Latin American literature and transatlantic modernisms, focusing on the intersections of Latin American modernismo and contemporaneous turn-of-the-century literary movements in Europe, aesthetics, and decadence. Dr. Comfort co-edited the volume 'New Directions in Flânerie: Global Perspectives in the Twenty-First Century' and contributed to various articles and chapters in esteemed journals and books. Her textbook anthology, 'Cien años de identidad: Introducción a la literatura latinoamericana del siglo XX', published by Georgetown University Press, received the 2019 Most Promising New Textbook Award from the Textbook & Academic Authors Association. She teaches courses on Spanish conversation and Latin American literature, directs Georgia Tech's International House, and has received multiple teaching excellence awards.
