Dr. Kelly Comfort

Biography

Kelly Comfort is a professor in the School of Modern Languages at the Georgia Institute of Technology, where she directs undergraduate studies. She earned her PhD in Comparative Literature with a designated emphasis in Critical Theory from the University of California, Davis. Joining Georgia Tech as an Assistant Professor in 2005, she became an Associate Professor in 2012. Dr. Comfort specializes in Latin American literature and transatlantic modernisms, focusing on intersections between Latin American modernismo and contemporaneous literary movements in Europe, including aestheticism and decadence. She has co-edited a volume titled New Directions in Flânerie and authored a textbook anthology, Cien años de identidad: Introducción a la literatura latinoamericana del siglo XX, which won the “Most Promising New Textbook Award” from the Textbook & Academic Authors Association in 2019. Her research includes exploring the role of art and the artist during the turn-of-the-century and has been published in numerous book chapters and articles. Dr. Comfort teaches various courses on Spanish conversation and Latin American literature and also serves as the faculty director for Georgia Tech's International House. She has received several awards for her teaching excellence, including the CETL/BP Junior Faculty Teaching Excellence Award and the University System of Georgia Board of Regents Teaching Excellence Award.
