Biography

Kelly Johnson is a Senior Lecturer in Criminology at the University of Glasgow, having joined the Scottish Centre for Crime and Justice Research in October 2022. Her research focuses on domestic abuse and sexual violence, particularly in relation to policing and justice, and she is known for her work on feminist theories related to these issues. With expertise in the policing responses to domestic and sexual violence, victim-survivor experiences, and criminal procedural justice, Kelly employs a variety of qualitative and mixed methods, including police ethnography and case file analysis. She collaborates closely with victim-survivors to ensure her work is innovative and impactful, aimed at generating positive social change. Kelly has worked alongside various statutory organizations, including the Home Office and College of Policing, on significant research projects, including Operation Soteria. In addition to her research, she teaches on the Masters programme in Criminology and supervises PhD students. Her professional activities extend to serving on editorial boards, most notably for the British Journal of Criminology.
