Dr. Kelly Johnston

Biography

Kelly Johnston is an Adjunct Research Fellow at Macquarie University, specializing in early childhood education. Her research focuses on play-based pedagogies and professional development for early childhood educators. Kelly has a strong interest in equity and social justice in education, particularly in empowering educators and pre-service teachers to overcome challenges related to mathematics aversion. Before obtaining her PhD, she gained extensive experience in various roles within the early childhood education sector, including positions as an early childhood teacher and service director in Australia and New Zealand, as well as primary school teaching in the UK. Additionally, she has worked in early childhood licensing and accreditation at both state and federal levels. Her academic qualifications include a PhD in Early Childhood Education from Macquarie University, where her dissertation investigated technology integration in Australian early learning environments. Kelly has also earned a Postgraduate Certificate in Research Methods and a Master of Early Childhood, all from Macquarie University.
