Generate a tailored SOP for Dr. Kelly Mcnagny. Improve your application with a focused, well-structured draft.
Kelly McNagny obtained a BSc in Biology and Biotechnology from Worcester Polytechnic Institute in Massachusetts, followed by a PhD in Cellular Immunology from the University of Alabama at Birmingham. At UAB, he worked with Dr. Max D Cooper, a pioneer in B cell immunology, focusing on how cell surface proteins regulate B cell maturation and homing. Later, he joined the European Molecular Biology Laboratory in Heidelberg, Germany, to conduct postdoctoral studies under Dr. Thomas Graf, investigating transcriptional control of stem cell fate commitment and the development of macrophages, eosinophils, and thrombocytes. He identified several novel hematopoietic stem cell surface proteins, which have since become the focus of his own laboratory at the Biomedical Research Centre at the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. Currently, he is a full professor in the departments of Biomedical Engineering and Medical Genetics, with research focusing on stem cell behavior, innate immune responses, inflammatory diseases, and cancer biology with a particular interest in immunotherapeutics. His research utilizes transgenic mice and other animal models of human inflammatory diseases, employing high-throughput 'omics' technologies to uncover immune components that influence disease outcomes. He has held leadership roles in various national and international scientific organizations and currently co-leads the Immunotherapeutics Cluster at UBC while serving as the delegate for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research.
