Biography

Wolgast’s work focuses on extending nursing health care outreach, professional development, and wellness program development for faculty, staff, students, and the wider community. A retired Colonel of the U.S. Army with 26 years of active duty as an Army Nurse, she has substantial experience including earning a Bronze Star for combat service and serving as Chief Nurse in Afghanistan. Her leadership roles also encompassed emergency support during Hurricane Katrina and Hospital Commander positions. From June 2020 to June 2023, she served as the Director of COVID-19 Operations Control Center at Penn State University, where she led the development of the university's COVID-19 operational plans. Wolgast possesses a strong foundation in Medical-Surgical Nursing and extensive executive healthcare leadership experience. As an engaged educator, she has advised over 30 MSN and DNP students and plays a critical role in the College of Nursing's Continuing Professional Development program, which provides nursing contact hours for hundreds of registered nurses each year.
