Biography

Kelsey B. Hatzell is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering and the Andlinger Center for Energy and the Environment at Princeton University. She earned her Ph.D. in Material Science Engineering from Drexel University, and holds a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering from Penn State University, along with a B.S. in Engineering and a B.A. in Economics from Swarthmore College. Her research focuses on emerging decarbonization technologies related to transportation, fuel, and direct air capture applications. Hatzell's group emphasizes the significant role of energy storage technologies, including batteries and thermal management systems, and leverages non-equilibrium x-ray techniques to probe materials in operando experiments. Additionally, her research examines the development of novel inorganic hybrid solid electrolytes for the next generation of solid-state batteries.
