Biography

Kelsey Spence is an Assistant Professor in Epidemiology at the Department of Population Medicine, Ontario Veterinary College, University of Guelph. She received her BSc from Trent University in 2014 and her PhD from the University of Guelph in 2017. Prior to returning to OVC, Dr. Spence held positions as a postdoctoral researcher at the Royal Veterinary College in London, England, and worked as a mathematical modeler for the Public Health Agency of Canada. Her research program focuses on the use of biosecurity and infection control practices in both animal and human populations. She is particularly interested in disease dynamics and how biosecurity measures are influenced by socio-cultural factors. Dr. Spence employs epidemiological, sociological, and mathematical approaches to identify and communicate optimal risk reduction strategies aimed at improving disease preparedness. Her research areas include Biosecurity, infectious disease epidemiology, and mixed methods in health and knowledge exchange.
