Biography

Ken-ichiro Kamei is an Associate Professor with a joint appointment in Biology and Bioengineering at NYU Abu Dhabi, and he also serves as a Global Network Professor at NYU. He earned his PhD from the prestigious Tokyo Institute of Technology in 2003 after completing his BA in 1998 and MS in 2000. His research focuses on the creation of a miniature device called the 'Body Chip,' which aims to replicate physiological and pathological conditions of living systems in vitro. He adopts an interdisciplinary approach incorporating stem cell biology, chemical biology, physics, and micro/nanotechnology. His ongoing research efforts are dedicated to advancing regenerative medicine and drug discovery for both humans and endangered animals, with the ultimate goal of promoting global healthcare. Kamei's previous roles include being a postdoctoral fellow at the Molecular Biology Institute at UCLA, as well as staff research associate at the California NanoSystems Institute at UCLA, and he has held positions as an assistant and associate professor at iCeMS, Kyoto University.
