Biography

Ken Coley is the current Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Western University, a position he has held since July 1, 2019. Previously, he was a professor in Materials Science and Engineering at McMaster University, where he held the ArcelorMittal Dofasco Chair in Ferrous Metallurgy and served as the Director of the Steel Research Centre. His research expertise is recognized nationally, and he has received numerous accolades, including the John F. Elliott Lectureship Award. Coley joined McMaster University in 1996 and became an associate professor in 1999, later serving as the Chair of the Materials Science and Engineering Department, where he significantly increased undergraduate enrollment. Prior to his role at McMaster, he worked at the University of Strathclyde as a lecturer and at the National Physical Laboratory in the UK. Throughout his career, Coley has contributed to significant initiatives to enhance undergraduate education and reduce student attrition rates. He has been instrumental in developing integrated programs in Biomedical Engineering and Health Sciences, promoting innovation in engineering education.
