Biography

Professor Gall’s research focuses on developing a fundamental understanding of the relationship between processing, structure, and mechanical properties of materials. His scientific contributions include the creation of an understanding of shape memory metals and polymers, and the discovery of new phase transformations in metal nanowires. His current research interests revolve around 3D printed metals and polymers, soft synthetic biomaterials, biopolymers, and structured surface porous networks. He is also a passionate entrepreneur, leveraging his fundamental scientific knowledge to accelerate the commercialization of new materials and enhance the effectiveness of existing materials. Ken has founded medical device start-ups, including MedShape and Vertera, which commercialize university-based technologies in the orthopedic medical device sector.
