My research has focused on identifying the risk factors associated with prostate cancer, the second most diagnosed cancer in men. Our findings have identified a protein called Pygo, expressed in tumors of men diagnosed with the disease. Patients with lower levels of Pygo expression tend to survive longer post-treatment. While Pygo could prioritize patients for care, its role in developing prostate cancer is still unclear. We also investigate how sex hormones influence the onset of prostate cancer, as testosterone is crucial in its progression. Our research includes studying prostatic intraepithelial neoplasia, the precondition for invasive prostate cancer, and the factors causing it, exploring gene mutations and sex hormonal changes in animal models. Understanding these dynamics will reveal if hormonal activity is a significant risk factor for cancer progression.
