Dr. Kenneth Ashton

Biography

Kenneth Ashton is an Adjunct Faculty member at the University of Regina, specializing in areas such as Metamorphic Petrology, Geochronology, Structural Geology, and Tectonics. He holds a B.Sc. from the University of Toronto, an M.Sc. from the University of Saskatchewan, and a Ph.D. from Queen's University. With a career spanning several decades, Dr. Ashton had a pivotal role as a Project Geologist with the Saskatchewan Geological Survey from 1990 to the present. His work notably involved mapping the Precambrian Shield of Saskatchewan, focusing on understanding the tectonic history of the southern Rae Province and the surrounding regions. Dr. Ashton has also contributed to various geological investigations and has been involved in contract roles for entities such as Manitoba Energy Mines and Geological Survey Canada. He has a substantial number of publications that include studies on Paleoproterozoic geology and the geochronology of metasedimentary rocks, showcasing his expertise in linking geological features with their historical context. His professional affiliations include P.Geo. status with APEGS Saskatchewan and a Fellowship with the Geological Association of Canada, where he currently serves as a Councillor for the Precambrian Division.
