Professor Dr. Kenneth Ashwell

Biography

Kenneth Ashwell is an Emeritus Professor in the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of New South Wales (UNSW). His research primarily focuses on comparative evolutionary neuroscience, exploring the neuroanatomy and brain evolution in marsupials, monotremes, and ratites. A significant portion of his work addresses sexual dimorphism in the brains of marsupials and developmental neuroscience. His qualifications include a Bachelor of Medical Science and a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery from UNSW, followed by a PhD from the University of Sydney. Ashwell's extensive contributions to the field include participation in the Australian Neuroscience Society and research into human evolution and early human development. He has published extensively on brain evolution and comparative neuroscience, making substantial advancements in understanding the evolutionary pathways of brain development in various species.
