Biography

Kenneth Ferraro is a Distinguished Professor of Sociology at Purdue University and the founding Director of the Center for Aging and the Life Course. His research focuses on health inequalities through a life course perspective and he developed the cumulative inequality theory to study aging, stratification, and health. His work explores various topical areas including racial and ethnic disparities, obesity, and the early origins of adult health. Ferraro has authored 135 refereed journal articles published in prestigious journals such as the American Sociological Review, the American Journal of Sociology, and the Journal of Gerontology: Social Sciences. He has mentored numerous graduate students who have subsequently held faculty positions at renowned research universities including Case Western Reserve, Johns Hopkins, the University of Minnesota, the University of Nebraska, the University of Toronto, Wayne State, and Chung-Ang University in South Korea. In recognition of his significant contributions to sociology, he was named a Distinguished Professor in 2008.
