Biography

Kenneth Pienta is a professor of urology and oncology at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, where he also serves as the director of the Brady Urological Institute and co-leader of the Kimmel Cancer Center’s Prostate Cancer Program. His research interests encompass the ecology of cancer, tumor microenvironment, metastasis, biomarker development, and novel therapeutic development. Pienta's research uniquely applies principles of ecology related to invasive species to the study of cancer tumorigenesis and metastasis, aiming to develop innovative cancer treatments through network disruption. Prior to his position at Johns Hopkins, Pienta served as associate vice president for research at the University of Michigan from 2012 to 2013, and during this time, he was also the director of the Precision Medicine Michigan Center for Translational Pathology from 2008 to 2013. Pienta received both his undergraduate and medical degrees from Johns Hopkins University.
