Professor Dr. Kenneth Pomeranz

Biography

Kenneth Pomeranz is a University Professor in History at the University of Chicago. His scholarly work primarily focuses on China, examining topics such as state formation, imperialism, religion, gender, and the interactions between society and economies. Pomeranz has a keen interest in comparative world history, particularly the social, economic, and environmental trajectories of late-imperial and twentieth-century China. His notable projects include an exploration of Chinese political economy from the seventeenth century to the present. He is currently writing a book titled 'China Big?' which seeks to understand the dynamics of China’s vast land mass and sizeable population in forming a cohesive political unit. Pomeranz has been recognized with fellowships from several prestigious organizations, including the Guggenheim Foundation and the American Council of Learned Societies.
