Biography

Professor Kenneth Reid is an Emeritus Professor of Scots Law at Edinburgh Law School. He studied history at St John's College, Cambridge, and law at the University of Edinburgh, qualifying as a solicitor thereafter. He was appointed Chair of Property Law in 1994 and served as a lecturer since 1980, advancing to senior lecturer and then to Chair of Scots Law from 2008 to 2019. Throughout his esteemed career, Professor Reid has contributed significantly to land law reform as the Scottish Law Commissioner, leading major legislative changes including the Abolition of Feudal Tenure etc. (Scotland) Act 2000 and the Land Registration etc. (Scotland) Act 2012. He has been honored with several accolades, including being a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh and the British Academy, as well as receiving a Commander of the Order of the British Empire title. Professor Reid has also held visiting professorships in the United States and has been actively engaged in the European private law working groups. He has published extensively and is the editor of the Edinburgh Law Review and a monograph series on Scots Law.
