Professor Ken Schweizer received a B.S. degree summa cum laude from Drexel University and a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (UIUC) in physics. After a postdoctoral appointment in chemical physics at AT&T Bell Labs and a senior research scientist position at Sandia National Laboratories in the Materials Directorate, he joined the faculty at UIUC in 1991. He is currently the G. Ronald and Margaret H. Morris Professor of Materials Science and Engineering and also holds professorships in Chemistry and Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. He is a principal investigator at the Materials Research Laboratory. His research expertise lies in developing and applying novel predictive statistical mechanical theories related to soft materials, including polymers, colloids, and complex fluids, focusing on thermodynamics, phase transitions, slow dynamics, and transport properties. His significant contributions to the field have been recognized through various external awards, including the John H. Dillon Medal from the American Physical Society and the Hildebrand Award from the American Chemical Society. Additionally, he has earned several teaching excellence awards at the university level and served as chair of the polymer division of the American Physical Society.
